Biography
Praised for his "riveting baritone" (Cleveland Classical), Mark Hosseini regularly performs vocal music across a wide range of styles and time periods, such as opera, musical theatre, oratorio, sacred music, and art song. He was recently seen as Emile De Becque in South Pacific with Suncoast Broadway Dinner Theater and as John Brooke in Little Women with Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, where he was praised for putting on a “heartbreaking performance” (Sullivan County Democrat). He performed Papageno in The Magic Flute with Des Moines Metro Opera's touring troupe, OPERA Iowa in 2019. He also covered Figaro in Baltimore Concert Opera and Opera Delaware’s 2022 co-production of Il barbiere di Siviglia.
Some other favorite stage performances include El Gallo in The Fantasticks with Ohio Light Opera, the Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance with Ohio Light Opera, Melchior in Amahl and the Night Visitors with Opéra Louisiane, Signor Naccarelli in The Light in the Piazza with Eastman Opera Theatre, Ottone in L’incoronazione di Poppea with Eastman Opera Theatre, Pandolfe in Cendrillon with Eastman Opera Theatre, and Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus with Oakland University Opera.
Notable concert solos performed include J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor with Bachfest Malaysia, Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Duruflé’s Requiem with St. Mark’s Church (Philadelphia, PA), Finzi’s In terra pax with the Orchard Park Chorale (Buffalo, NY), Handel’s Messiah with the Fort Street Chorale and Chamber Orchestra (Detroit, MI), J.S. Bach’s Weihnachts-Oratorium with the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, and Matthias Pintscher’s songs from Solomon’s garden with OSSIA (Rochester, NY).
Mark has attended young artist training programs with Des Moines Metro Opera, Sarasota Opera, Opera Delaware, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Pegasus Early Music, and College Light Opera Company. He holds a Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, where he was a recipient of the Renée Fleming Endowed Scholarship, and a Bachelor of Music Degree from Oakland University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was given the Music, Theatre, and Dance Department Award for “Outstanding Student in Voice Performance” upon his graduation. He currently lives in New York City.
